Mi-24P Helicopter

Mi-24P(Mi-35P) helicopter is a modification of the Mi-24V(Mi-35). Works on increase of Mi-35 helicopter’s fire power brought to dismantle of the USPU-24 flexible machine-gun unit with YaKB-12.7 machine-gun and installation of a fixed NPU-30 gun unit with 9-А-623К gun, caliber 30 mm and with ammunition set of 250 cartridges.

Mi-35P helicopters is intended for destroying enemy’s armored vehicles and fire support of Land Forces.

And can be also used for:

  • airlifting of up to 8 fully armed troopers in the cargo cabin;
  • airlifting of up to 1500 kg of cargo inside the cargo cabin and up to 2400 kg as an external load;
  • airlifting of 2 stretcher cases with a medical attendant.

Re-equipment of the helicopter from one version into another is carried out in field conditions and does not require special equipment.

Effective accomplishment of combat missions is provided by an armament complex consisting of:

  • “Shturm-V” or “Ataka-M” missiles;
  • S-8 rockets, caliber 80 mm;
  • universal gun pods with 23 mm gun;
  • bomb armament (bombs , caliber from 50 to 500 kg, and incendiary tanks).

a fixed NPU-30 gun unit with a double-barrel gun, caliber 30 mm.

ATGM are intended for destruction of armored and well-protected targets.

Depending upon the target type Shturm and Ataka missiles with different types of warheads are used.

  • Cumulative, tandem intended for destruction of tanks equipped with dynamic protection;
  • Fragmentation/High-explosive intended for destruction of manpower, especially effective when exploded in closed spaces of fortified constructions;
  • Rod with detonating fuse of contact and non-contact action providing air target destruction.

Unguided armament is designed to hit:

  • Armored targets;
  • Light Armored targets;
  • areal targets and enemy’s manpower in shelters;
  • The gun is designed to hit enemy light armored ground and surface target, manpower and airborne targets within its front sector.

The helicopter’s structure, equipment and systems allow to operate day and night, in simple and some adverse weather conditions, over plains, hilly and mountainous terrain.

Helicopter’s operation does not require special means of airfield maintenance, and it can be based autonomously.

For timely crew warning on the approaching threat defense complex is installed on the helicopter which includes:

  • light and sound signalling equipment;
  • equipment for protection of helicopter against missiles attack, being part of antiaircraft missile complex of “Red Eye” type. It creates in space a modulated radiation flow, having a circular diagram with capability of retuning frequency modulation depending on enemy’s missile thermal self-homing warhead frequency modulation.

  • easily removable exhaust-heat shields (EHS) intended for helicopter protection from missiles with heat seekers by way of shielding of infra-red radiation created by heated parts of engines exhaust duct, temperature decrease and change of exhaust gases direction;
  • chaff and flare dispenser

In order to prevent explosion and leakage of fuel when fuel tanks are destroyed by bullets caliber 7,62 and 12,7 mm and fragments main fuel tanks — one front and two low tanks — are protected and filled with polyurethane and prevent fuel leakage within 6-8 hours.

For providing crew survivability when performing combat mission a set of measures on armor-plating of vitally important helicopter aggregates was fulfilled on the helicopter.
